Insecure Brought Us Some Bops

Ok, everyone has gathered their edges and hairlines by no. The Insecure finale has had us in our feelings all week. Let’s be grateful for all the bops that Issa Rae has given us. She’s exposed us to a whole bunch of artists that we wouldn’t have heard of ordinarily. I know that my Apple Music playlist is hot as fish grease now because of her. (Excuse that soliloquy I’m very southern) Here’s a list of all the artists that Insecure has given us over the years.

Lion Babe

Lion Babe Adds Silky Sound to HBO's 'Insecure' with New Song 'Just Me' - Rated R&B

Despite having a famous mother who is Vanessa Williams, Jillian Hervey is a star in her own right.  Lion Babe is a duo that includes her partner Lucas Goodman. Their songs were “Can I See It”, “Hit the Ceiling”, “Just Me”

The Grammy award-winning artist is an eclectic artist who has his own flair that doesn’t appeal to the masses, but he has a certain je ne sais quoi that appeals to a certain crowd. Thundercat definitely has music that makes love to your ears like “Heartbreaks + Setbacks”.

The Alternative hip-hop squad is a group that produces smooth vibes. If you’re 4/20 friendly this group is the perfect one to listen to while you’re getting lifted. Or going out for a night drive to clear your head after a crappy day. Don’t believe me check out these tracks “Just Sayin “and “I Tried”.

Victoria Monet

They’re a personal favorite of mine and she’s the orchestrator of a lot of hits. She’s responsible for “Glow”.

Cautious Clay

Who doesn’t love a good turn up? You know the nights where you’re super drunk at Waffle House or your favorite wing house buying wings after a night of debauchery. This is the perfect song to get wild to and scream Ayyy with your friends.

This is just a hand full of the artists that she gave us, it’s plenty more to choose from. I just didn’t want this to be entirely too long. Insecure gave us a chance to see ourselves in a positive light. There aren’t too many shows that highlight the Black experience. In addition to highlighting Black musicians, Rae managed to do both at the same time which is exemplary. We’ll be talking about this for the next twenty years. This show has joined the ranks of “Living Single”, “Martin” and “Girlfriends”. These artists I know are forever grateful to her genius.
