Forbes named Kylie Jenner the youngest self-made billionaire. This is a false statement for several reasons. Not to diminish her accomplishments because that company grew at an astounding speed. You can’t say someone is self-made when they are a trust fund kid. Her father is Caitlyn Jenner (aka Bruce Jenner). She’s had a head start versus other entrepreneurs who had to really hustle for this wealth.
I’ll be the first to admit Kris Jenner is a marketing genius because she made a family a household name. When it was first reported on The Shade room, Nene Leakes stated that “Well some people get opportunities that others will never get! This game isn’t fair!” I was in agreeance with her because this is the absolute truth. Jenner has connections that people would kill for plus she was rich all her life. Then she amassed more wealth during her teens thanks to her family’s show, which equates free promotion on a major network.
For her sisters to say that this had nothing to do with her success is ludicrous. Its people sitting on million-dollar ideas every day, but they lack the connections and resources to make them a reality. Not to sound cliché “it's not what you know, its who you know”. That how most people succeed in this world and white frat boys illustrate this narrative all the time.
People need to familiarize their selves with the definition. Self-made: Having achieved success in life in unaided. There are plenty of self-made billionaires who deserve the accolades like Pat McGarth who is in the same industry as her. Oprah Winfrey is another woman they could’ve mentioned or Folorunsho Alakija who is a fashion designer. These are women who are out here killing it despite the sexism and racism. Yes, the women mentioned previously are melaninated.
The gripe with Forbes is promoting false narratives, selling papers is the main objective and using their name will bring potential customers. At the same time as writers, though it should be a certain level of integrity upheld whenever these articles are released. Being an advocate for the truth that article title just rubbed me the wrong way and I’m poor! Royals sound off!
