The blackout at the Emmy’s this year was cute, but it’ll be nice to see real support and solidarity. The support from actors and actress could be argued as in-genuine. Many of them don’t appear to have the clout to be as vocal as Jane Fonda. It’s extremely disheartening that they haven’t helped to create a haven for those women to tell their stories.
They’ve made it possible for women who look ‘like them’ for their stories to be heard. What about women who look like Gabrielle Union, Lupita Nyong’o, Salma Hayek, America Ferrera? Their stories need to be highlighted as well. How will little girls know it’s okay to be brave? Representation is important, abusers try to drill it into their prey’s head that they’re worthless. Then there are images of only non-women of color as prizes. Is this the image that the world is trying to convey?
