Netflix just canceled "She's Gotta Have It". This was one of my favorite shows on Netflix. Granted the second season wasn't as great as the first. It had some great parts, it had some deep parts that went over most people heads. The very last scene where Nola hung herself with her braids was symbolic. This was the best part in all honesty.
It pissed a lot of people off but to me, this was brave of Lee to do because it needed to be said. In the words of Malcolm X, "The most disrespected person in America is the black woman. The most unprotected person in America is the black woman. The most neglected person in America is the black woman.” That painting articulated everything this quote is saying. In addition, to what's going on in the world right now.
I truly hope that Lee finds another network to finish this series because I'm curious to see what he comes up with. Spike Lee has always been a man who writes stories about black pain. He has a way of articulating our issues to make Black America more conscious of our actions. Think back to "Ro The Right Thing", this film is over thirty years old and it still has relevance today.
